چکیده

Abstract This essay investigates breath as a fundamental unit of exchange between people and their environment shown in two collections Jayne Wilton’s work. The first is series technologically empowered portrayals the using innovative scientific techniques to translate universal breathing gestures (the sigh, laugh, gasp) into images objects which allow viewers re-experience often-overlooked visual forms. second, created through participatory workshops with patients staff London hospital, explores visualisation highlight ways meeting visually can enhance awareness help articulate experience breathlessness. As context background for this work also discusses range depictions art from Cueva de las manos ( ca . 7300 BCE) Philippe Rahm’s ‘Pulmonary Space’ (2009).

The Ephemeral Pairing Problem

In wireless ad-hoc broadcast networks the pairing problem consists of establishing a (long-term) connection between two specific physical nodes in the network that do not yet know each other. We focus on the ephemeral version of this problem. Ephemeral pairings occur, for example, when electronic business cards are exchanged between two people that meet, or when one pays at a check-out using a ...

Visualising the actin cytoskeleton.

The actin cytoskeleton is a dynamic filamentous network whose formation and remodeling underlies the fundamental processes of cell motility and shape determination. To serve these roles, different compartments of the actin cytoskeleton engage in forming specific coupling sites between neighbouring cells and with the underlying matrix, which themselves serve signal transducing functions. In this...

Visualising Breath

The visualising of breath using digital in-line holography is challenging due to the issues of the relative scale of the human breath in relation to the recording area of the hologram. In this collaborative project between artist Jayne Wilton and physicists Professor Peter Hobson and Dr Ivan Reid a number of approaches, including the use of spatial filtering (Hobson and Hong 1988), are being us...

Dust storms and ephemeral lakes

In drylands, both dust storms and ephemeral salt lakes (playas) are common. Observations using remote sensing and ground studies have shown that these playas can be major sources of saline dust storms. Some basins have recently become desiccated as a result of water abstraction by humans, and these have become significant sources of dust. The timing and amounts of dust emissions depends on such...

1 Ephemeral Java Source

In an object oriented, distributed environment, program maintenance, which has never been the most predictable task, becomes even more uncertain. Java’s dynamic loading mechanism was developed to tackle some of the uncertainties. In doing so, it shifts the focus from the state of the sources to that of the binaries. This paper discusses some of the implications of that move.
